What EVERY filmmaker overlooks!

How do you know about a brand? Say Nike or Apple or Coke? It’s one technique that almost every business and product use to get their brands name in your mind… its marketing!

Marketing much like filmmaking is an art, doing it right can get millions of people looking at your product or brand and done wrong and you’ll be on the end of major backlash.
In the grand scheme of things when making a small independent film the post production is generally limited to editing, sound, colour, upload. Now there is nothing wrong with this as sometime people have a large online following and can gather thousands of views just by uploading something but for many small independent filmmakers just don’t have the following to gather a large group of viewers for their projects and gold ends up just being buried in the internet, this is why marketing and sharing your film around it not only critical to get viewers and gather a following or make some money back but it’s also a great way for important people to see your film or possible get quality criticisms so that way next time you do it even better.
So how could you market a short film? Well this is where my last blog comes into play… COLLABORATION! There are always other creators out there looking to share and grow audiences one of the cheapest ways to market your film is to ‘collab’ with other like-minded people, no you can always pay to advertise your film but that just adds to the budget which is often already almost used up by post production another downside for paying for advertisements is its extremely hard to narrow down how many people were sent to your project from the advertisement.
To end off I personally recommend as creatives we should work together to help share our projects and gather an audience to view our media products, its free and the most accessible and easiest way to share our work and help each other out.
Thank you for reading if you would like to discuss and collaborations comment below and I’ll get back to you,
