This week we were shown the impact screen design can have on a final film or any other media product.

One of thing that will not only stay with me but influence my decision making in the future is how experiences and having a large database of art overall as well as an understanding of is important to being a successful production designer as they aren't just dressing up the space but they provide more information about the characters, locations and props this often helps pass on a backstory which leads to a more successful understanding of some of the key subtext(s) and messages the film is attempting to pass on to its audience.

Production design is a huge aspect to filmmaking that adds not only to the overall look of a film but also to the overall meaning of the film.

This will keeping me thinking consciously about how I dress the set and what I put in the frame.

Production Breakdown for Last Dance:

Below I have taken a scene from my new script 'Last Dance' and I am doing a production design breakdown.

The scene I have decided to work on is the street scene, where the three main characters decide to go into a house party.

This a crucial scene in the film as it one of the decisions that will shape the protagonist's journey not only in the film but after it .

Mood Board:

Above are some examples of the sort of area the main character will live in this will be used to contrast his life, upbringing and life style from his friends as well as the situation he is in.

LOCATION:

The location will be a upper middle class to upper class suburban street, tree lined street with large houses with a large american influence, this will be to show the socioeconomic status of the characters within the film, the power and influence the characters have most notably the protagonist's father as he is able to organise a scholarship and wants his son to follow his plan and not fail or diverge from his plans.

This will also contrast the style and lifestyle the protagonist to live, as he attempts to hide where he comes from ad the wealth, although his close friends are of the same socioeconomic standing.

COSTUMES:

Paul is from an upper class area but to contrast where he is from he tends to dress in neat casual as it opposes who he is perceived as and gives him more of a way to express himself. The other mates will wear a matching style of clothing to show that he is attempting to fit in with the people he associated with.

SET DESIGN:

It will be a quiet upper class street, so well maintained front gardens and houses, and a few light posts.
