Week 5 was a critical week for me as a producer this was a chance for me to check up on how my performance was going in terms of completing the right documentation and insuring I was doing what I needed to and insure preproduction was were it needed to be, which it was! Mainly because the location and some of the minor actors were already filled and sorted by Jordan the main producer, this was a good weight off my shoulders which allowed me to focus on finding extras, main actors and putting together a budget which was manageable as we had some 60 applicants for the main roles and a handful for the extras and in terms of organising budgets I have had some experience while studying account back in school.
The film locations were pretty contained, a bar which we had permission to use, the alleyway on the side of the bar, which we also had permission to use and then the bars car park, essentially a dream as we also had permission to use that to film, the bar was in an rustic industrial style with a huge pop of green from plants hung from all around – the only problem being when I think of a mobs bar I tend to imagine more of a speakeasy contemporary vibe apart from that the only other issue was this huge support beam right in the middle of the location which was perfectly positioned to block the cool room from where we planned on shooting, but it isn’t fun unless there’s a few challenges right, then there was the alleyway which was lined with cobblestone making our original plan of a dolly in for the opening shot impossible as it would have taken too long to set up and there being no guarantees in a smooth shot but this influenced us in coming up with what I think will be an amazing opening shot, as for the carpark it was essentially a big square with crush rock, pretty easy although it had minimal lighting.
As previously mentioned the things I’m working on are the casting and budgets as well as assisting were I can without overreaching overall I believe I’m managing my role pretty well, I would like to improve by keeping a constant communication channel open between all staff on this film although I don’t want it to become overwhelming or just ending up like spam, apart from that I feel I’m doing pretty well in my role and I feel all the other departments of the production are killing it! I’m excited for how this film will come out in terms of completing tasked allocated to me I have done them and I’m keeping up with other tasks requested by the producer or director.
At this point I haven’t done much more research into producing although I will do some to insure I can be the best I possibly can.
Below are the two main documents others I've contributed to are with the other heads of production or was done on paper and given to them.
Overall everyone is completing what they need, or we have worked on ways in which they can complete what they need to, and I need to work on insuring a stinger line of communication is created with that I see this production going smoothly.
