On Set

Its shoot week! Both something awesome and crazy hectic in so many different ways, but in terms of on the day the shoots were organised, we had everyone show up on set although one of the days a few team members thought it would be an amazing idea to show up to set at shoot time rather than call time, a pain in the ass considering the actors were already on set… apart from that everything else worked like a well-oiled machine a tired but till working machine, and that was really the only challenge was that we were tired the shoot ran from 6pm till 3 or 4 am most nights and I believe the crew did an amazing job considering the challenges of shooting at such times the only other challenge was attempting to prevent more than one director being on set as there were a few people that kept attempting to direct or constantly throw suggestions towards the director when they weren’t needed, these people will stay unnamed.
For the shoots I was the gear guy, co-producer, camera op, focus puller, jib operator, moved lights and catered the film, I feel I did a good job over all but when looking back I wish I hadn’t thrown my hand up to do all these things as it would have allowed me to be more precise and refined in my other roles, such as nailing the focus every time.
On my minor film I was 1st AC, on that film I feel the set was super-efficient, only the people that absolutely needed to be on the floor were there everyone else was just waiting for cut to come help move things, feed and hydrate the actors and crew, as well as there was no second, third or fourth director. From the set I really learnt that I failed to help protect our director on my main set and this is something I will be working on the future for sure! Also, walkie talkies are also useful on smaller sets and not just huge sets.
But overall it has been a huge eye opener for who I really want to work with more on other films both inside and outside of uni and who I don't want to talk to ever again becuase they cause nothing but problems.
