Directing actors’ workshop was a rea eye opener it was the first time seeing the film get interpreted, overall I learnt that there is more to directing actors then just saying do this or do that, you have to find motivations that will entice the right performance from the talent but the most important thing I thing is that you show the actors not only what you want but you give off the feeling that you are calm and in control, if an actor senses you aren’t confident with your direction they will begin to slowly take control of their own performance and oftentimes begin to run away with their character this something we begun to see with our production once we had found our main roles, it was important we identified it earlier as to allow us to address the issue with the main actor which then allowed the director not to have to worry about actors possibly running away with it further in the production.
Overall the directing actors workshop worked well in seeing how the actors would embrace the script but there was time where the director could have used a few varying techniques to help the actors pull a performance they desired but it was still an amazing performance that allowed the crew to gauge how the film will come out as well as blocking and lighting positions.
For the audition process there were a few things we did to make sure we picked actors that were not only looked the part but could play the part, number one was only having actors with reels and links to work be invited to the casting that way we could see they have had a range of experience to pull from, then we also planned to get talent to send it video auditions of the role they are applying for, then finally we would have them come in for a casting session.
