Crew Pitch

This week at film school we were tasked to formulate a crew pitch where we had to pitch for a particular role on one of the six productions that were selected, from week one I wanted to be a director of photography it’s a role I not only enjoy but what I’m increasingly working as in a freelance capacity, In terms of my crew pitch I was going to go through all the scrips and mark them up and hand them out to their respective producers that way they can see how I visualise their story and how I would go about bringing their idea from paper to screen, coupled with a PowerPoint that way minimal but still highlighted the work I’ve done as well as skills and knowledge of the camera department as a whole I have developed.
Although I completed the PowerPoint which was a requirement, I was only able to get through and completely mark up one scrip due to work and having a busy weekend, this greatly limited my ability to be selected as a DOP as there would potentially be only one film I could Accurately pitch to so I adapted my PowerPoint to fit the style of the film I was now pitching for (Assimilate) adding slides that I could use to persuade the producer to choose me, unfortunately I wasn’t successful in getting the role of DOP which sucked but hearing I got a major role on another film in which I wanted to work on as a Co-Producer was just as good, I like to use my creative side as much as possible as personally I believe it’s one of my more strong points coupled with technical ability it allows me to achieve many things I use to think were impossible, but having a non-creative role was a slight challenge I had to make sure I wasn’t overstepping my bounds which so far I have achieved to varying levels throughout pre-production while still assisting in solving possible technical problems.
I feel I would have done better in my pitch if instead of aiming to mark-up each script completely it would have been better to select a scene from each film and mark that up instead, that way not limiting myself to only one production would have given me a higher chance of being picked but after working as a co-producer I’m happy that I landed that role.
Within the week of forming the production group we had all been greeted and added into a range of social media groups and email groups thus setting up communication pathways that allowed us to hit the ground running which will hopefully lead to an amazing production.
